Hey Phil - yep that's exactly what the hose is which makes it easier to stop the water while I try to fix the tap.

My problem isn't with the hose connection itself though, it's with the tap leaking ... I can't find any washer. The tap seems to have a different way of working by rotating a piece of plastic inside that has a hole to let the water through. Any idea how to fix this kind of leaking tap?

Those metal cased hoses are common Matt. If they are what I'm thinking, they are braided hoses. They make a mains water to sink connection easy because you don't make any pipe bends as you would were you using pipe made of solid metal. Can't get a picture in my mind of what you are describing otherwise. Braided hoses are usually only tightened to hand tight, and then say about half a turn. They do vary in quality, and leaks under vanity cabinets have wrecked many a particle board cabinet as the particle board expands and turns to Weetbix.

Hi,

I have Humfrey & Schutz taps that look like these ones:

http://www.recollections.com.au/detail_description/550/Tapware/Oxford%20Lever/2/Basin%20Set%20PVD/1211341156

Underneath the basin there are metal-cased hoses that connect to the wall with a tap on the wall.

I've pulled the handles off and looked underneath and can see a plastic insert that turns with a hole in it to let the water through. These are leaking - any advice on how to fix?

Thanks in advance

Hi, having trouble with a tap where the button just pops off but I can't get to the screw in the tap head (ie the bit you turn). The tap is running continuously. I have successfully replaced all the washers in the taps in my home but this one in my daughters house has defeated me! It looks as though there is a split nut which is tightened below the end of the spindle and I can't work out how to get to it to take the tap off so I can reseat and replace the washer. Any suggestions would be great. Ta

Hello Alan,

If the saving the bonnet is not an issue, you may need to carefully use a hacksaw blade, or a small rotary tool with a cutting blade.
